Customs and Tax Service officers at the Wrocław airport found four shells in the luggage of a tourist returning from the Caribbean Islands. They were detained because the woman did not have the appropriate permit.
The giant pterygium is protected under the Washington Convention, called CITES, which aims to protect endangered species from illegal trade in animals and plants that are at risk of extinction due to international trade.
“Due to the violation of the provisions of the Nature Protection Act, the officers detained protected specimens for further proceedings,” he informs National Tax Administration.
