In the space of two days, fatal accidents have occurred on the French and Italian sides of the Mont Blanc massif. Among the victims is a Pole, the ANSA news agency reported on Friday.

On Wednesday and Thursday, three climbers died on the French side and one on the Italian side. The agency, citing emergency services, reported that the Polish alpinist died while climbing a normal French route, and the fatal accident occurred in the area of the Gouter ridge. The climber slipped and was alone, explained mountain rescuers from the Chamonix area gendarmerie.

As noted, in this zone at an altitude of over three thousand meters above sea level, accidents occur due to difficult sections and avalanches.

“There is a lack of accustomment to the presence of snow at certain altitudes”

The other victims were climbers from Taiwan, Germany and Italy. The director of the Aosta Valley Alpine Mountain Rescue Service, Paolo Comune, explained that in two of these cases, heavy snowfall was the cause.

– After years of low rainfall and high temperatures, people are not used to the presence of snow at certain heights and if they do not pay attention, there is a risk of slipping – he emphasized.
