Bonfire. A drunk priest drove around the city. “He almost fell out of the vehicle”

The incident took place on Thursday (April 4) in Sobótka. One of the first people to receive information about the priest's detention was Robert Krajewski, a journalist from “Gazeta Ślężańska”.

– I got a call that a priest fell out of a car drunk. At first I thought someone was playing a joke. I got in the car and drove to the site. I noticed a priest in an unmarked police car – he says in an interview with tvn24.pl.

According to him, the priest stopped in the middle of the road and thought he was in a parking lot. – He opened the door and almost fell out of the vehicle. People helped him because they thought he had fainted. They smelled alcohol on his breath and called the police, adds Krajewski.

– Sobótka is a town of 6,000 people where everyone knows everyone. The policemen took action on me. The first result showed 0.75, and after 15 minutes it was 0.88. The priest was confident at first. He said that he was coming back from the curia and that the police would let him go. Then he started crying and begging – notes the journalist of Gazeta Ślężńska.

Krajewski admits that this is not a surprise to residents. – The priest was known for celebrating masses under the influence of alcohol. It was only a matter of time until something happened. Thank God that nothing happened to anyone – he emphasizes in an interview with tvn24.pl

Information about the intervention is confirmed by the press officer of the Wrocław Police, Commissioner Wojciech Jabłoński. – In Sobótka, local police officers intervened against a drunk driver. This report was received from direct witnesses. It turned out that the 67-year-old man had almost 1.5 permille in his blood. Proceedings will be brought against him, he said.

The spokesman for the Archdiocese of Wrocław, Father Rafał Kowalski, said on Radio Wrocław that appropriate consequences would be brought against the priest.

– There is no doubt that this was reprehensible behavior that deserves the greatest condemnation. I can personally apologize at this point, but also say that an immediate decision was made to make him suffer the greatest consequences of his behavior, that is, he was immediately dismissed from the parish and no longer holds any positions – he admitted.

According to Radio Wrocław, there is a new administrator in the parish in Sobótka Górka, appointed by the archbishop.
