“And that's the right attitude!”, “everyone in Poland should treat Tusk the same way” – Internet users comment on a recording that supposedly shows the owner of an English bar throwing Prime Minister Keir Starmer out of it. Indeed, there was such a situation, but not now and not with the Prime Minister.
A 32-year-old man associated with the Channel3Now website has been charged with cyberterrorism – she informed on Wednesday, August 21, Pakistani police. It was on the Channel3Now website that false information about the identity and origin of the perpetrator appeared a few hours after the knife attack in the British city of Southport on July 29. He was allegedly a Muslim and an illegal immigrant. This false information, spread on social media, caused a wave of anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim riots to pass through cities in Great Britain.
Along with information about incidents in other British cities, recordings of these situations have been posted on social media – but also films that have nothing to do with current events. Some of this fake news we verified In Concrete24However, there is still content circulating on Polish social media that is misleading about the current situation in the UK and fuels anti-Muslim sentiment.
“British patriot throws current leftist prime minister Keir Starmer out of his pub” – he wrote August 14, one of the users of the X service (original spelling of all posts). He added a short, approximately 40-second recording to the post. First, we see two men pushing through the threshold of the building's entrance door – the first, in a lighter sweater, wants to go inside; the second, in a dark suit and a dark mask on his face, does not want to let him in. On the wall of the building is a sign “Bar on the top.” In the background, shouts of “it's the owner!” can be heard. Eventually, the man in the sweater gets inside, but the second man catches him and pushes him down the stairs inside the building. The man in the sweater shouts: “this is assault!”, “I'm not disturbing you!”, “this man is not allowed in my pub!” and twice “get out of my pub!”. As these last words are spoken, Keir Starmer emerges from somewhere inside through the front door. The politician also wears a dark mask. He walks away calmly, accompanied by a group of people. The post with the recording has generated over 138,000 views.
Many internet users praised the attitude of the pub owner. “Bravo to this gentleman, respect”; “And that's the right attitude!”; “He's got balls”; “A brave owner with principles!”; “Beautiful. Everyone in Poland should treat Tusk the same way,” they commented. One asked: “And why are they wearing masks?”
Others suggested in vulgar words that Prime Minister Starmer, instead of an English pub, should visit a place serving cuisine from one of the minorities living on the Islands.
We checked where the footage came from; if and when Keir Starmer was thrown out of the pub.
That was the case, but before he took over as prime minister
In mid-August 2024, the same recording was widely shared by English-speaking internet users as well. Some argued that Starmer was thrown out of the pub for “treating radical Muslims better than his own citizens” and “liking Muslims”; others said he was thrown out for “being a Zionist” (Starmer is atheisthis wife Victoria comes from Jewish family – ed.). The material has already been verified by fact-checking editors, including: AFP Fact Checkbritish Full Fact and Indian NewsChecker and Reuters.
The situation from the film actually happened, but not now, but on April 19, 2021. It was in the English city of Bath. Only Starmer was the leader of the opposition at the time, not Prime Minister Great Britain. He recently took over the Prime Minister's portfolio, July 5th 2024.
The incident involving the Labour Party leader was widely reported in the British media, including: BBCnews station portal Sky Newsdiaries “The Independent”, “The Telegraph” and “The Guardian“. In their reports they published the same or similar recordings from that situation.
Starmer was thrown out by one of the co-owners of The Raven pub in Bath, Rod Humphris. Google Street View image they confirmthat this is where the incident took place – the characteristic white wall with the decorative inscription “Bar upstairs” is correct. Rod Humphris told the BBC that he was unhappy with Starmer's response to the lockdowns introduced by the then government. He claimed that the Labour leader entered his pub without asking. The incident took place during the election campaign for the local elections in the UK, which took place May 6 2021.
