An accident in Żuławy in the Cedry Wielkie commune (Pomeranian Voivodeship) occurred last weekend. A 6-year-old girl fell into the Vistula River. The child's father, trying to report the accident, was unable to give the officer on duty the exact location. The ambulance crew asked the police in Pruszcz Gdański for help in finding the place of the accident. The girl's father also drove out in front of the ambulance, towards the buildings.
When the police arrived, they found paramedics taking the injured woman to the hospital. The child's parents followed the ambulance in a car. The officers followed them to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
Parents face prison
– While talking to the girl's parents, they smelled alcohol on the 33-year-old and 36-year-old. It turned out that the man had almost a per mille of alcohol in his system, while his wife had over a per mille of alcohol. Both were detained and after sobering up, they were charged. They will be held accountable for exposing the person they were supposed to care for to direct danger of loss of life and health. Additionally, the 33-year-old was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. They face a penalty of up to five years in prison – said junior asp. Karol Kościuk, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Pruszcz Gdański, adding that the prosecutor applied police supervision to both of them.
The girl is still in hospital.
