The tragic accident occurred on the night from Sunday to Monday. On the Chmielowo Wielkie – Grzebsk route, near Mława, the driver drove off the road and hit a tree. A 36-year-old man died, one of the passengers died, another – 17-year-old – is in a serious condition in hospital. Two teenagers were also injured.
According to the Mława police, a total of five people were traveling in the car that hit the tree at 1 a.m.
He lost control of the car
– According to the findings of police officers working with the prosecutor's assistance at the scene of the incident, the driver of the Audi, a 22-year-old resident of Mława County, lost control of the vehicle on a bend in the road, drove off the road, and then hit a tree with the rear side of the car. One of the three passengers sitting on the back seat, a 36-year-old man, died at the scene of the accident, said staff midshipman Anna Pawłowska, spokeswoman for the District Police Headquarters in Mława.
She added that the second passenger, a 17-year-old resident of Mława County, suffered serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital in Mława, and from there to the hospital in Warsaw.
Two female passengers of the Audi, aged 19 and 15, were also injured and taken to hospital in Mława.
The driver escaped unharmed
– The Audi driver, a 22-year-old resident of Mława County, was not injured and was sober. His blood was taken for testing for alcohol and narcotics. Further, detailed investigations into the course and causes of the accident are ongoing. The Mława Police Department is conducting the investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor – the spokeswoman emphasized.
The policewoman also appealed for caution. – The number of tragic road accidents increases during the holidays. A moment of inattention, inappropriate speed, fatigue, lack of concentration or experience behind the wheel have serious consequences. When we get behind the wheel, we take responsibility for our own safety and that of our passengers, she reminded.
