– The ministry is working on introducing provisions regarding the maximum temperature into the law – said Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy, in the program “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24. Asked about what changes may still be implemented, she replied: “for example, shortening working hours, introducing siesta, breaks, providing access to a cooling room.”
– The regulations governing temperatures permitted in the workplace are completely unsuitable for climate change. (..) The Labor Code specifies the minimum temperature in the office – it is 18 degrees, but there is no maximum temperature – she pointed out.
Dziemianowicz-Bąk: work is underway at the ministry
– In response to these climate changes, we have started work at the ministry, together with the National Labor Inspectorate, to fix this issue and introduce a maximum temperature – she emphasized.
– The idea is to enter the next holiday season with new regulations – she announced. Asked what changes might be introduced, she replied: “for example, shortening working hours, introducing siesta, breaks, providing access to a cooling room.”
Siesta in Poland?
Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk was additionally asked whether, following the example of southern European countries, a siesta could be introduced in Poland. – We must slowly, because slowly, of course as far as possible, prepare for such changes, perhaps – she stated.
– Both employees and employers should definitely care about health, safety and hygiene at work. Today we often talk about health and safety at work, but in reality we are talking about the health and life of employees. No employer wants an ambulance to come to their workplace and take away an employee. This is also in the interest of entrepreneurs and employers – she emphasized.
