“Prime Minister Donald Tusk as of August 6 this year, appointed members of the management board to the positions Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego Jarosław Dąbrowski and Mateusz Szczurek” – informs BGK. This means that within two weeks the board will start working in its full composition. Szczurek and Dąbrowski join Mirosław Czekaj, president of the board, Marta Postuła, first vice-president of the board, Maciej Kliś, vice-president of the board and Leszek Stypułkowski, member of the board.
Who is Mateusz Szczurek? The Prime Minister appointed him as a member of the BGK board
Mateusz Szczurek is a former finance minister from 2013-2015. In 2016, he began working as a regional economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This year, he became one of five members of the European Fiscal Council at the European Commission. In the past, he was elected European finance minister of 2015 by The Banker magazine and finance minister of Central and Eastern Europe by Euromoney. Until 2023, he lectured at the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw.
Before Mateusz Szczurek entered politics, he worked in the private sector. He was the Polish representative in the BIAC Business Advisory Committee at the OECD in 2011-2013. Until 2013, he was also a regional economist at ING Bank, and before that, the chief economist at ING Bank Śląski, a member of the Assets and Liabilities and Treasury Committees.
After obtaining the consent of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, Mateusz Szczurek will serve as a member of the bank’s management board supervising risk management.
BGK already has a full board. Who is Jarosław Dąbrowski?
Jarosław Dąbrowski has been a member of the Supervisory Board of BGK since February 2024. He previously held the same position at ABC Data SA (in 2019), at MCI Capital SA (2013-2015), and at PBP SA, currently Nest Bank (2010-2013). He also worked, among others, in 2004-2009 as the president of the management board at DnB Nord bank Poland SA and BISE SA, which later merged. He was also a member of the management board and previously vice-president of Raiffeisen Bank Polska SA (1997-2003). He also founded DF Capital Dom Maklerski sp. z o. o., where he was president from 2010 to 2014. In the years 1992-1993 he worked in managerial positions at the Office of the Council of Ministers.
Jarosław Dąbrowski is a lawyer by education, he graduated from the University of Warsaw. He obtained an MBA from the University of Warsaw and the University of Brussels. He completed postgraduate studies in AMP at the University of Navarra/IESE Business School. He also studied at the Edinburgh University Management School as part of the Know-How Fund scholarship created by Margaret Thatcher.
