– Vladimir Putin can not simply refuse Donald Trump, and at the same time he does not want to agree to stop the fire. Probably because he is counting on being still successful on the front. There is cookies in such a dilemma – assessed Professor Włodzimierz Marciniak, a Sovietist and Russian expert, and former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Moscow. He commented on the effects of Tuesday's telephone conversation of the presidents of the US and Russia. Janusz Reiter, a former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Germany, and then in the USA, admitted that in the context of the Washington-Moscow conversation “it is difficult to talk about success.”
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump conducted a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. The conversation was to last at least 1.5 hours. In the process, it was established, among other things, that the Kremlin would suspend on 30 days of hitting critical infrastructure Ukraine. At the same time, Putin expressed the expectation that the delivery of Western weapons for Kiev and the mobilization of Ukrainian soldiers would be suspended.

Former ambassador in Russia: Putin can not just refuse
The effects and course of Washington's conversations with Kiev and Moscow about the end of the war in Ukraine were commented on Wednesday in “Yes,” on TVN24 prof. Włodzimierz Marciniak, Sovietist and Russian expert, former Polish ambassador to Moscow and Janusz Reiter, former ambassador in Germanyand then in the USA.
– Putin can not simply refuse Trump, and at the same time he does not want to agree to stop the 30-day fire. Probably because he is counting on being still successful on the front. There is cookies in such a dilemma – said prof. Marciniak. In his opinion, Putin “wants to have a cake” and conduct a conversation with Trump, and at the same time “wants to constantly wage war, because the war is politically favorable to him and is probably convinced that he is economically beneficial for him.”
In turn, Janusz Reiter admitted that in the context of this conversation “it is difficult to talk about success”. – I say this without Schadenfreude (joy of someone else's misfortune – ed.), Because this is not a reason to be happy – he emphasized.
Trump and Putin “did not determine much”
In the opinion of Professor Marciniak Trump and Putin during the Tuesday telephone conversation “they did not determine much”. – In general, many comments are that Putin has just rejected Trump's proposal. What is happening at the moment is only a smokescreen, which is to cover the fact that these conversations are idle and are empty – he commented.
The former Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Moscow said that it was evidenced by, among others inclusion in the message after the interviews information about the planned exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia. – It is not presidents who agree such things. It was artificially attached to show that there was some positive content in these conversations – said Marciniak.
On Wednesday, Ukraine and Russia carried out “one of the greatest exchanges of prisoners of war” – said Zelanski. He emphasized that 175 people returned to Ukraine, and the exchange was planned earlier. On Tuesday, the Kremlin reported that Putin informed the US President about the exchange during their telephone conversation.

“Ukraine and Europe are looking at it from the outside”
– It is not known properly what the logic of this process is, which is to lead to the next stage and what is to lead to the end of the war. It is not known what criteria President Trump adopted to conduct these conversations and what he wants to achieve – said Janusz Reiter.
– The fact that he wants to end the war, of course, sounds good, only the question is still open on what conditions and what it will mean especially for Ukraine – he noted.
Reiter also pointed out that Europe does not participate in these conversations. – It is frustrating that both Ukraine and Europe are looking at it from the outside and is just finding out what the US President with the President of Russia has agreed. This is not good news either. We will see what the next steps will be – he concluded.
