Iga Świątek experienced an emotional rollercoaster in the match against Coco Gauff. During one of the breaks in the second set, tears appeared in her eyes. A moment later, she made a valuable break and it seemed that she would turn the tide of the competition. Unfortunately, the joy did not last long, as the American rewarded her with a return break. Świątek tried to mobilize herself. Before the last game, she went on a medical break and finally lost 4:6, 4:6. It's hard to believe what she did after the last ball.
The journalist immediately pointed this out to Świątek. She really did it after the Gauff match. “Very unusual”
Our best tennis player ended the match in the worst possible way – with a double service fault. Complete resignation immediately appeared on her face. Then she approached the net to traditionally congratulate her opponent. But we haven't had the opportunity to see Świątek's farewell like this before.
It looked quite strange. When Świątek high-fived Gauff, she didn't even look at her. The contact lasted incredibly short. The Polish woman immediately turned around and was the first to move towards the judge. Then, with her head hung, she went straight to the locker room. Her behavior was noticed by Portuguese journalist Jose Morgado. – A very unusual, cold handshake by Iga Świątek – he wrote on the X platform and shared the recording.
When the 23-year-old left the stadium, Gauff showed a very elegant attitude. After shaking the judge's hand, she came to the Polish box to thank our entire team. Only later did she start celebrating with her team.
Despite Iga Świątek's defeat in the first match of the United Cup final, Poland still has a chance to win the trophy. For this to happen, first Hubert Hurkacz must defeat Taylor Fritz, and then the Poles must defeat the Americans in mixed doubles.
