We are tightening security mechanisms at the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport – admitted Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak in an interview with Bloomberg. As he explained, this is related to arrests after attempts at subversion or sabotage of foreign countries. He also pointed out that most of the aid for Ukraine is delivered from this airport.
Boss Ministry of Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak confirmed in an interview for Bloomberg that after a series of arrests of people suspected of sabotage, Poland is tightening security mechanisms at the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport, from which 90 percent of weapons and military equipment are transported Ukraine.
Bloomberg reminds about series of arrests people suspected of involvement in sabotage, and the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport is not only a transport hub, but also a transfer point for Western politicians heading to Kiev.
“We are dealing with a foreign state that is carrying out hostile and – using military jargon – kinetic operations on Polish territory,” said Minister Siemoniak in an interview he gave in Warsaw. He added that “this has never happened before.”
Siemoniak said that Poland must cope with an unprecedented level of foreign interference.
“Disposable Agents”
The coordinator of the secret services did not provide details on how to secure the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport more tightly, Bloomberg reported.
The agency wrote that the issue of the security of this airport, which may be the target of Russian operations, came into focus when in April the prosecutor's office announced the detention of a man suspected of participating in a plot to murder Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and collecting information about this airport .
The head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration assessed that the actions that took place recently were carried out on behalf of the Russian military intelligence service GRU. He added that similar operations are organized throughout Europe. They are usually carried out by people whom the minister called “disposable agents”, recruited from hooligan circles or criminal organizations and ready to undertake such tasks for money.
Siemoniak stated that this is a “very serious situation”, considering that Russian services are now operating on foreign territory in a more deliberate manner. “We are no longer talking about agents of influence or some online activity (…). These are people who are ready to come and set fires,” said the minister.
Detentions in Poland
Bloomberg recalled that the Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at the beginning of the week the arrest of 12 people suspected of attempting sabotage and sabotage in Poland, including arson, beatings and attempted arson. Clues that may lead to the Russian services in connection with the arson of the shopping center at Marywilska Street in Warsaw are also being investigated.
The National Prosecutor's Office announced on April 18 that a person had been detained and charged in Poland Paweł K., who declared his readiness to act for Russia's military intelligenceand the information obtained from him was supposed to help in a possible attack.
