When the weather is monotonous, as it has been for many days, more interesting things happen where we cannot see. This was the case on Saturday morning, when a long line of clouds appeared over part of Poland. It was visible in the satellite image.
Saturday started cloudy almost everywhere in Poland. As tvnmeteo.pl presenter Tomasz Wasilewski pointed out on TVN24 in “You get up and know”, the south-eastern part of our country “looks very mysterious and enigmatic” in the satellite image.
Before 9 o'clock space you could see a line several hundred kilometers long, stretching from Podkarpacie, through the Lublin region, to the western part of Ukraine.
The clouds cast a shadow
As the presenter explained, this streak, which looks like a gap between clouds, is a shadow cast by one layer of cloud cover on another.
– To put it very simply, we have two adjacent cloud zones. One is higher and the other is lower. When the sun's rays fall at an angle at this time of day, there is a shadow on this fault, between one layer of cloud cover and another, he explained.
As Wasilewski admitted, “it is rare to see shapes in satellite photos that arise only in specific situations” and are visible “very briefly.” – In a moment, the sun will be higher on the horizon and this shadow will disappear – he added.
