Mining supervision, the police and the prosecutor’s office are explaining the circumstances of the fatal accident that took place on Sunday in the Zofiówka mine (Silesian Voivodeship). An employee of an external company died, who fell down into the shaft during repair work on the shaft tower.
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa spokesman Tomasz Siemeniec said that the accident in the so-called Zofiówka traffic, i.e. part of the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine, took place on Sunday (June 18) in the afternoon. The man who died was an employee of an external company, he participated in repair and maintenance works of the shaft tower as a member of a seven-person brigade. The work was carried out by a consortium of two companies.
The worker fell down the shaft, he did not survive
– The works were carried out under the supervision of the foreman and around 3.20 pm one of the employees of a foreign company informed the head of the mine shaft about the disappearance of one of the employees working in the shaft. The search for the missing man has begun. During the search, it was found that for unexplained reasons one of the company’s employees fell down the shaft. He was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m., a JSW spokesman said.
They are investigating the causes and circumstances of the accident
The causes and circumstances of the accident are being investigated by the District Mining Office. A separate investigation will be conducted by the police and the prosecutor’s office.
– Our police officers were at the scene of the accident, there was a forensic technician who performed the activities, the prosecutor was also called. Appropriate documentation has been prepared – said senior aspirant Halina Semik from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
