A 68-year-old man from Jaworzno kept birds of strictly protected species without a permit. The police also found tools used to catch animals on his property. The poacher faces up to five years in prison.
Police officers from the Department for Combating Economic Crime in Jaworzno obtained information about a man who was allegedly keeping birds of protected species. On Wednesday, they went to his property.
During the search, they found several birds of the species goldfinch, siskin, linnet, a cross between a siskin and a canary, and a cross between a goldfinch and a canary, which are subject to strict species protection.
In addition, they secured a trap and a so-called live trap, i.e. a net used to illegally catch wild birds.
The specialist confirmed that owning these birds is prohibited
An environmental and wild animal protection specialist from the Forest Emergency Service was called to the scene, who confirmed that the birds on the property are protected species and their possession is prohibited.
A 68-year-old man from Jaworzno was detained. He was charged with possessing protected animals and tools intended for poaching. Now the man will be charged with an offense under the Hunting Law Act and the Nature Protection Act, which is punishable by imprisonment from three months to five years.
