She had trouble withdrawing cash from the ATM, and eventually left, thinking it had failed. However, the machine did dispense the money, and a woman and a man took advantage of the “opportunity” to take it. They were caught on camera.
– According to the findings so far, an elderly woman tried to withdraw money from an ATM. However, she had a problem with this and after several withdrawal attempts, she left the ATM, thinking that the withdrawal had not been processed. Then a woman and a man approached the ATM. The woman noticed the money left in the ATM and gave it to the man standing next to her – describes in the press release Senior Constable Anna Pawłowska from the police in Mława. – They left and did not use their own card. Their images were recorded by a camera installed in the ATM – she adds.
Taking money that someone left in an ATM is a crime, punishable by up to three years' imprisonment.
Police are asking for help
The police ask anyone who recognises the man and woman in the photo or has information that could be helpful in identifying them to contact them immediately: tel. 47 703 62 00, 47 703 62 14. Such information can be provided anonymously.
What to do with money found in an ATM? – leave the banknotes in the ATM until the feeder withdraws the withdrawal – this will speed up the process of collecting the money left behind; – contact the customer service office of the ATM owner of the specific chain or bank; – as a last resort, notify the police about the situation.
