The police detained a 22-year-old man who calculated exactly how much he could steal during one “heist” so that he could not be charged with a crime. He made a mistake because investigators treated a series of thefts in supermarkets as one act. Now he faces up to five years in prison.

The police determined that a 22-year-old man might be standing behind the stripped shelves. The officers detained the man on Friday (June 14). According to the press officer of the Ostrowiec police, Assistant Commissioner Ewelina Wrzesień, the 22-year-old allegedly committed seven thefts in total.
“The findings showed that the man always took with him goods of relatively low value, which meant that the theft was classified as a misdemeanor (…). In total, the injured party estimated the losses at over PLN 900,” Wrzesień said.

However, the officers outsmarted the man who precisely calculated the value of the stolen loot, combining his actions into a “continuous act”. Thus, the 22-year-old was charged with theft, for which he faces up to five years in prison.
