Adam Dźwigała, who is not yet 29, was not a regular player for FC St Pauli in the previous season of the 2nd Bundesliga, which quite unexpectedly won promotion to the highest league in Germany. The Pole played 733 minutes in 17 matches for the “Pirates”, which is why it was assumed that after the promotion Dźwigała would have to leave the club.

Meanwhile, the former player of Jagiellonia Białystok and Wisła Płock had a fantastic start to the new season in the club from Hamburg, which suffered mercilessly in the first round of the German Cup against fourth-league Hallescher FC.
The Bundesliga newcomer was sensationally losing 1:2 when Adam Dźwigała came on in the 71st minute in place of Hauke Wahl. The only goal for Sankt Pauli was scored in the 48th minute by Johannes Eggestein, while Cyrill Akono (11') and Marius Hauptmann (63') scored for the hosts.
In the third minute of added time, Dźwigała proved to be the hero of his team, after he converted a cross from Estonian Karol Mets from the left side of the pitch and scored an excellent first-time equaliser and extra time. This was only Dźwigała's third goal in his four-year adventure with St Pauli.
The extra 30 minutes of the match didn’t see much action, but the Bundesliga newcomer managed to strike a decisive blow. It was Lars Ritzka who did it in the 110th minute, giving St Pauli a 3-2 away win over Hallescher FC and a place in the next round of the German Cup.
