I want to thank with all my heart our soldiers, but also our allies – soldiers from Germany and soldiers from Turkey – said President Andrzej Duda, who on Wednesday visited the areas destroyed by the September flood.
President Andrzej Duda he went on Wednesday to the areas destroyed during the September flood. He visited Głuchołazy and Nysa, where he met with representatives of the uniformed services, army and local government authorities.
The president thanked the soldiers
Before 7 p.m., President Duda spoke at a press conference in Nysa.
Duda announced that in GÅ‚uchoÅ‚azy he met with officers responsible for the reconstruction of the broken bridge, as well as with the commanders of the engineering troops who have been present on the site since September. – First of all, I want to thank with all my heart our soldiers, soldiers of the Engineering Troops, soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces, but also our allies, soldiers of the troops from the Federal Republic German and soldiers from Turkeywho, as part of the engineering forces, are currently starting the construction of the bridge crossing – said the president. He emphasized that German soldiers “have been helping to remove the effects of the flood for over a month.”
The president recalled that Polish soldiers, both from the Territorial Defense Forces and from the engineering troops, were present on site even before the flood wave reached the city. – They were already helping then, then they helped defend against water, and now they are constantly participating in the action to remove the effects of the flood. They were the ones who built the bridge in GÅ‚uchoÅ‚azy, a dual carriageway, temporary, but a bridge that will serve the residents (…) until the actual bridge is built, Duda said.
Duda noted that 3.5 thousand soldiers from all over Poland are working in the areas affected by the flood. – The service performed by these soldiers, their commitment, professionalism and dedication are highly appreciated. The gratitude from everyone, both residents and local authorities, is huge here. Everyone appreciates it, said the president.
He also thanked firefighters and all volunteers who came to the areas affected by the disaster from all over the country.
– Local government representatives who remember the times of the 2007 flood say how great the difference is in the quality of help that was then and now, how much sacrifice has increased in our society, understanding for other people, our simple interpersonal solidarity. Thank you very much for this and with all my heart, said the president.
He informed that on Wednesday evening he met with representatives of the local government authorities of Nysa and surrounding towns and communes, including: LÄ…dek Zdrój or WleÅ„. – I discussed with local government officials and asked them to provide various comments and what else was needed. I listened to it, we wrote it down, I will also talk about it with government representatives, with the Minister of Interior and Administration, and with the Minister of National Defense – he announced.
