Schumacher Packaging plants in Poland were taken over by the Spanish Saica Groupe. The Spanish take over absolutely all the activities of the German company: the management board, all employees, two corrugated cardboard factories in Bydgoszcz and Wrocławtwo paper mills in Grudziądz and Myszków and three service centers. The Spanish are engaged in sustainable paper solutions for the production of corrugated cardboard and packaging.

This will increase Spain's operational capacity by 420,000 tonnes of recycled paper into corrugated board, along with an additional increase in corrugated board production capacity of 530 million square meters. In total, the Spanish company will have a production capacity of 3.7 million tons of recycled paper.
– This operation is a very important milestone for us, it is a step forward in Saica's business development strategy, not only by continuing our expansion into the Polish market, but also to further develop our infrastructures and services in Europe Eastern. The press release emphasized that “this is a significant step in the development of infrastructure and services in Central and Eastern Europe” and “expanding the offer of plants in Poland in the area of paper solutions for the production of corrugated board and packaging, as well as a strong emphasis on the further development of the business model of the economy with closed circuit”. Earlier (in 2011), Saica took over a corrugated cardboard packaging plant in Tychy, and in 2022 it acquired 76 percent. shares in Fox Recykling, a waste management company in Gdynia.
The acquisition has been approved by the Polish antitrust office, which means that the transaction has been finalized and the integration process has begun. The takeover itself took place on the 31st October 2024, but companies announced it with a delay.
