Federal authorities arrested 16 people and confiscated over 400 kilograms of fentanyl. The US Department of Justice talks about “the largest in the history of the drug fighting agency Fentanyl confiscation”.

As part of the operation, law enforcement agencies conducted coordinated searches in five states (New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Arizon and Nevada), which led to the liquidation of one of the largest and most dangerous organizations dealing with drug trafficking USA.

400 kilograms of fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine were confiscated. In addition, 16 people were arrested and a record amount of cash counted in millions of dollars, firearms and vehicles were secured.

The US Department of Justice speaks of “the largest drug control agency in the history of the Fentanyl confiscation.”

– This unprecedented drug acquisition by DEA is a serious blow to the Sinaloa cartel, we eliminate poison from our streets and protect Americans against fentanyl scourge. The Department of Justice will continue cooperation with our partners in law enforcement agencies to break down any network of cartels operating illegally in the United States – said US prosecutor general Pamela Bondi.

– Our communities are safer today thanks to the tireless commitment and coordination between federal, state and local law enforcement agencies – said US prosecutor Ryan Ellison from the New Mexico district in Tuesday's statement.

According to Bondi, federal agents secured illegal substances worth about four million dollars.

According to the report of the Disease Control and Prevention Center (CDC), the opioid crisis in America has slightly weakened, but almost 200 people die of fentanyl a day. The number of drug overdose dropped by four percent between 2022 and 2023. Nevertheless, about 100,000 people are still dying a year.
