During a storm in the Tatras, the cable car to Kasprowy Wierch broke down. There were almost 200 tourists on the summit, but in emergency mode, everyone was taken down – said Ćukasz Chmielowski from Polskie Koleje Linowe.
– After the lightning strikes, the cable car's electronic system malfunctioned, but in accordance with our standards, we safely brought down all tourists waiting at the upper station in emergency mode – said Chmielowski.
The RMF24 portal reported that one of the elements of the cable car was struck by lightning. PKL employees are still verifying what caused the failure.
“We would like to inform you that the PKL railway is no longer taking tourists to Kasprowy Wierch today,” it was written around 3 p.m. on the PKL Kasprowy Wierch social media profile. The railway is to resume operations on Thursday.
