End of day off for Saturday? Employers of Pomerania and Kujawy, associating over 200 enterprises, want to abolish the obligation to provide employees with an additional day off for holidays falling on Saturday. In 2025, employees will gain two additional days off – Saturday falls on May 3 and November 1.
They want changes to the Labor Code: Employers appeal to the governmentconsidering amending Article 130 para. 2 of the Labor Codewhich states that “each holiday occurring in the settlement period and falling on a day other than Sunday reduces the working time by 8 hours.” Business owners indicate that the need to provide an additional day off for a holiday falling on Saturday has significant consequences for them.
Letter to the government: Entrepreneurs emphasize that such a solution “not only generates organizational difficulties for employers, but also leads to… excessive reduction in the number of working days per year”. Thus, it may negatively affect the productivity and competitiveness of Polish companies. “Obligation an extra day off in plants where Saturdays are off is not justified from the perspective of equal treatment of enterprises that operate in different work systems – write entrepreneurs in a letter quoted by the Puls HR portal.
Free Christmas Eve: Employers also point out that the Sejm recently adopted and the president signed it Act on a free Christmas Evewhich will be a day off from work next year. An additional, third trading Sunday in December was also introduced. The act states that a store employee can only work on two Sundays. At the same time, president referred the act to the Constitutional Tribunalo the post-control mode. It concerns the third working Sunday in December and changes introduced to the Act without public consultations.
