In the island of Negros, a volcano Kanlaon broke out in the morning – informed the Filipino Institute of Volcanology and Sejsmology (Phivolcs). The inhabitants were awakened by a rumbling sound, and the area was covered with a thin layer of ash. Evacuation was recommended.
According to the Filipino Institute of Volcanology and Sejsmology (Phivolcs), “Moderate Eruption” took place in the top Kratar Krate Kanlaon at 2.55 local time and lasted five minutes.
“The eruption generated a grayish, extensive plume that rose for about three kilometers above the mouth [wulkanu – red.]and then headed west, “Phivolcs said in his latest newsletter.
They heard a rumble
According to local media, the eruption was accompanied by a rumbling sound, which was audible in nearby cities, among others in Barangay Pula or Canlaon City. The surrounding regions were covered with a thin layer of ash.
People living within a radius of six kilometers from the volcano should evacuate – experts recommended.
“Those who experience the effects of ash precipitation must take all necessary precautions and use protective masks or wet fabrics to prevent inhalation of ash, with particular emphasis on sensitive people, including the elderly, people with respiratory or cardiovascular diseases, future mothers and infants” – warned Phivolcs.
The last eruption of the Kanlaon volcano took place over a month ago, on April 8, and caused a huge plume of about four kilometers high.
