Pope Francis traditionally addressed the people gathered at noon in St. Peter's Square for the Angelus prayer. Sunday's reflections concerned tolerance and openness to others – in society, but also in the Church.
Pope to the faithful: God does not keep us at a distance
– Let us look to God's heart so that the Church and society do not exclude, they did not exclude anyone, they did not treat anyone as unclean; so that everyone with their own story is welcomed and loved without labels, without prejudices, loved without adjectives – appealed the Pope.
The Pope emphasized that people must understand that “in the face of suffering of body and spirit, wounds of the soul, situations that oppress us, and also in the face of sin, God does not keep us at a distance, he is not ashamed of us, he does not judge us“.
Francis stated that currently “we live in times of martyrdom and even greater than in the first centuries.”
– In various parts of the world, many of our brothers and sisters experience discrimination and persecution because of their faith. Others suffer martyrdom with white gloves“- continued the pope.
The Holy Father called on the faithful to supporting the persecuted with prayer. – Let us be inspired by their testimony and love for Christ – he encouraged.
War in Ukraine. Pope Francis appeals for prayer
Francis also referred to the situation in Ukraine. – On the last day of June we beg the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus to touch the hearts of those who want war, to convert to plans for dialogue and peace – he appealed.
– Let's not forget about tormented Ukraine, Palestine, IsraelBurma and so many other placeswhere there is great suffering due to war, the Pope concluded.
