Mass food poisoning occurred in one of the kindergartens in Bielany, Warsaw. 89 children fell ill, 13 of them were hospitalized. The investigation is being conducted by the Sanitary Inspectorate.
We received information about food poisoning that allegedly occurred in three kindergartens from a reader. According to her reports, the symptoms could have occurred in up to several dozen children. The little ones felt bad last Friday, some of them were taken to hospital. The case caught the attention of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
Artur Walkiewicz, Deputy State Sanitary Inspector in Warsaw, confirmed that the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station received information about poisonings among children from a kindergarten located in Bielany. – An epidemiological investigation is currently underway – Walkiewicz said.
89 cases, 13 children in hospital
In turn, as Bartłomiej Frymus from the promotion and culture department at the Bielany District Office told us, the problem concerns one kindergarten.
– The first symptoms of food poisoning in children appeared on Friday, June 14, in the morning. Educators kept parents informed about the situation and asked them to pick up their children immediately. Over the weekend, parents informed the kindergarten management about further illnesses. On Monday morning, we had 89 cases reported. 13 children are hospitalized, their condition is good, Frymus said.
A representative of the Bielany town hall assured that the facility's management is in constant contact with the Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. – The source of the food poisoning is being determined. For this purpose, food samples were submitted for laboratory tests – added the official from Bielany.
