The police detained a man who “offered alcohol to random people in the vicinity of the Western Railway Station and then stole luggage and handbags.” The procedure was stopped by officers from Ochota.
Police officers from Ochota received information about a man who gets random people drunk near the Western Railway Station and then robs them.
“The man talked to the travelers, started a conversation with them, then offered them alcohol, got them drunk and when the person was significantly under the influence of alcohol, he stole luggage and handbags” – describes Asp. in the press release. Małgorzata Gębczyńska, spokeswoman of the Warsaw III District Police Headquarters.
He wanted to chase the thief, he was too drunk
The police began observation, one of the men matched the description. “In one of the restaurants near the Western Railway Station, they noticed a man who was significantly under the influence of alcohol. A large bag and a backpack were next to the man. After a while, a man previously observed by the operational officers entered the restaurant and brought two cups to the table,” the policewoman describes.
“He placed one of them next to the drunk man. With each moment, the man sitting at the table was getting more and more drunk and kept putting his head on the table. Seeing the man's significant state of intoxication, the perpetrator grabbed the bags standing next to the drunk man and walked decisively out of the restaurant. The owner of the stolen items he tried to follow the thief, but he was so drunk that he did not manage to catch up with the 48-year-old,” adds Asp. Gębczyńska.
He spent the night in a police cell
Seeing the whole incident, the officers started chasing the man, who started running away with the bags towards the bushes near the track. After a while, the 48-year-old was already in the hands of the police. The man was taken to the police station and spent the night in a police cell. The officers found out that a few days earlier he had stolen PLN 15,000 from another person in the same way.
After collecting evidence, the 48-year-old was charged at the Warsaw Ochota District Prosecutor's Office with theft of items and money (Article 278 of the Penal Code) and the taking of other documents (Article 276 of the Penal Code).
