Warsaw. The last generation blocks bridges

On Monday, climate activists from the last generation arranged marches through three Warsaw bridges: Śląsko-Dąbrowski, Świętokrzyski and Poniatowski. They moved at a slow pace, assisted by the police. The end of the march turned into a blockade – the activists stuck their hands to the road of the third crossing. For several hours, drivers could not pass from the center towards Prague.

Activists of the last generation gathered in the morning at Zamkowy Square. They shouted: “Solidarity with our strength.” – We are going on a march on Warsaw bridges. The first bridge will be the Silesian-Dąbrowski Bridge. The next will be the Świętokrzyski Bridge – one of the activists announced. Poniatowski Bridge was also in the protest plan.

As they planned, they did. In a free march, the police accompanied them by three bridges. Activists carried a large Polish flag.

They marched slowly

Protest was watched by Klemens Arykowski, a reporter of tvnwarszawa.pl. – Protesters are marching slowly through the Poniatowski Bridge. The slogans referring to their postulates will chant, among others that Rafał Trzaskowski would support cheap transport, not expensive highways. It is calm, I do not see opponents of the protest around – he described before 13 o'clock.

The march is secured by the police. – Protesters move around the bridge first in one, then in the other. Depending on the direction, the bridge thread is closed by the police. Trams move in both directions – added Repoter.

– The assembly is registered. We provide assists, as in any other case, to secure the place of march and their participants – Jacek Wiśniewski from the Warsaw Police Headquarters informed us. He added that the march is calm, there were no incidents.

Finally, they stuck

The end of the last generation march has turned into a blockade. Before 13 o'clock, several dozen activists of the last generation sat on the Poniatowski bridge. They glued their hands to the road.

– About 10 people stuck on the road towards Prague. Police negotiators are in the action. Activists, however, do not talk to them, but sing songs. Large police forces gathered, about eight marked and unmarked cars. The roadway towards Prague is blocked. Trams run without any obstacles – reported Klemens Arykowski.

– Poniatowski's bridge towards Prague is still blocked – our reporter Mateusz Mżyk said at 4pm. He added that activists are still sitting on the road, and policemen stand around them. – Cars driving towards Prague from the de Gaulle roundabout are directed to the bridge to the Vistula River in front of the bridge. Many cars and buses got stuck in a traffic jam – he described.

The Municipal Transport Authority said that in connection with the blocked ride towards the Washington Roundabout Line buses 111, 117, 158, 507, 521 They were directed to the changed route.

“Strong adhesive as concrete”

Representatives of the last generation informed on Monday evening that several protesters stuck to the road of the Poniatowski bridge “with a strong glue as concrete”. “The police are not able to peel off their way as always, i.e. using acetone. The officers fenced off the concreted people from the rest of the protesters and the media, they consider how to detach their hands from the surface,” the media said in a message.

– Policemen perform activities aimed at removing these people from the street – Rafał Rutkowski from the Warsaw Police Headquarters told us around 18.30.

Tvnwarszawa.pl reported then that the police were conducting their activities on the pavement and the right lane. – Movement towards the center takes place without obstacles. Towards Prague, the drivers go with one lane. Trams run without any obstacles – Mżyk described.

Around 19.40, the capital police reported that the people locking the traffic removed from the road. – There are no more difficulties – said Rafał Rutkowski.

Why are they protesting?

The last generation has announced the blockade of Warsaw for several days. It coincided with the start of the final exams, but – as the organization emphasized – there was no plan to block the exam to the exam to high school graduates and high school graduates.

The last generation explains the blockades by the fact that the president of the capital Rafał Trzaskowski ignored their demands on public transport support and organizing a meeting with the Prime Minister.

“The last generation gave a choice to Rafał Trzaskowski, the leader of the presidential race and the President of Warsaw: either ahead of the postulates fighting with transport exclusion and will organize a meeting with the prime minister, or in his city there will be protests in the fire of the presidential campaign. He had time for this until May 4. Rafał Trzaskowski chose protests. Therefore, today dozens of people from all over Poland are marching through the bridges in the center of Warsaw” – We read in a statement.

The last generation from the beginning has two main demands: the transfer of funds planned for the expansion of highways and expressways for regional and local public transport, creating a monthly ticket for PLN 50 for such regional and local transport.
