The tragic fire occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday in an apartment in a block of flats in Praga Południe. According to the Warsaw Fire Department, one person has died. The District Construction Supervision Inspector excluded three premises from use.
The fire broke out in an apartment on the second floor of a building at 7 Podskarbińska Street in the Kamionek housing estate.
– We received the call a few minutes before 2 a.m. After arriving at the scene, firefighters found an extensive fire in an apartment on the second floor. Flames were coming out of the windows. There was a person in the premises above who called for help. She was evacuated using a mechanical ladder. After extinguishing the apartment, the charred body of a man was found – said senior captain Wojciech Kapczyński from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Warsaw.
Three premises closed for use
The firefighter added that the building was not evacuated due to the heavy smoke in the staircase. – Some people evacuated before our arrival – said Kapczyński.
Firefighters were on site until 5 a.m. Then the police and the prosecutor carried out their activities. The District Construction Supervision Inspector also arrived on site and closed the apartment that had burned down, as well as the premises below and above it, from use.
