Wola Łaska, fire at the waste disposal plant. There are serious injuries. Prosecutor's office on the causes

The condition of one of the women injured in the waste disposal plant fire in Wola Łaska, near Łódź, is described by doctors as very serious. According to the prosecutor's office, at the current preliminary stage “there are no grounds to indicate circumstances indicating intentional starting and causing the fire”.

Down a fire occurred on Monday (July 1) on the premises of TWK-ZAG Sp. z o. o. in Wola Łaska. It is a recycling plant and waste disposal. The fire covered about four thousand square meters. Firefighters fought the flames for several hours – during the fire there were also explosions, the source of which were probably aerosol canisters.

11 people injured

As a result of the fire, 11 people were injured. The condition of two of them is serious. The injured were taken to hospitals in Bełchatów, Łask, Pabianice and Siemianowice Śląskie.

One person was taken to the Stanisław Sakiel Burn Treatment Center in Siemianowice Śląskie. It is a woman whose identity is currently unknown. As reported by the center's spokesman, the injured person is being treated in the intensive care unit, doctors assess her condition as very serious, she has burns over 80 percent of her body.

An 18-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman were transported to the facility in Pabianice. Both have burns to their faces and bodies. Their condition is stable and they will not require transport to a specialist burn treatment facility.

Causes of the incident

The fire probably spread after a container exploded, disposing of pressurized aerosols. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Prosecutor Jolanta Szkilnik from the District Prosecutor's Office in Sieradz told TVN24 that at the current preliminary stage there is no basis to indicate circumstances indicating the intentional setting and causing of the fire that occurred yesterday in Wola Łaska.

Szkilnik emphasized that activities are underway. Investigators are analyzing, among other things, weather conditions and what was left after the fire at the landfill in order to explain the circumstances and the way in which the fire broke out.
