A 52-year-old woman buried a two-month-old cat alive. The animal's squeal coming from the ground was heard by her daughter in time and she managed to dig it out alive. Unfortunately, the police officers working at the scene found the body of another cat on the plot. The woman could face up to 5 years in prison for the crime she committed.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Żelichowo (Pomeranian Voivodeship). At approximately 1:30 p.m., the officer on duty at the Nowy Dwór Police received information from the reporting party that her mother had buried kittens alive. Police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
– The 30-year-old reporting person explained that she wanted to show her children the kittens and while she was in her garden, she heard a squeak coming from underground. The concerned woman started to dig out the hole and after a while she managed to pull out a live cat, about two months old – said the press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Nowy Dwór Gdański, junior asp. “She couldn't explain why she did it”
– During the intervention, a 52-year-old woman approached the police and admitted to burying the animal alive. However, she could not explain why she did it – the policewoman informed.
The uniformed officers present at the scene secured the scene of the incident, interviewed witnesses, and conducted an inspection and photographic documentation.
– An autopsy of the animal will be carried out and an expert from the Veterinary Hygiene Institute will be called in to determine the injuries and cause of death of the cat. The police will conduct the necessary procedural activities. The results will determine what charges the 52-year-old will face – added junior asp. Figiel.
Cruelty to animals is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
