The meeting of the parliamentary investigative committee on postal elections has begun. The main point of the meeting was the hearing of Law and Justice MEP Adam Bielan.
The name of the MEP appeared, among others, in testimony of former deputy prime minister in the PiS government, Jarosław Gowin, according to which Bielany was the originator of organizing the postal elections in 2020. – I was skeptical because it would have threatened to intensify the pandemic and cause organizational chaos – emphasized the former deputy prime minister, testifying before the commission.
The last witnesses
Adam Bielan is one of the last witnesses to answer before the commission. According to its head, MP Dariusz Joński (KO), the commission will finish its work on May 24.
On May 15, former Speaker of the Senate Tomasz Grodzki is scheduled to appear before the committee, then former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki will testify, and at the last meeting, PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński will be questioned.
The presidential elections, in accordance with the order of the Speaker of the Sejm of February 2020, were to be held on May 10, 2020 in the form of postal voting due to the COVID-19 epidemic. However, on May 7, the National Electoral Commission announced that because the applicable legal regulation deprived the National Electoral Commission of the instruments necessary to perform its duties, the vote could not take place.
Ultimately, the elections took place on June 28 (1st round), voting took place at polling stations.
