The daily “Jutarnji list” writes about preparations for the hottest period of the year. According to information provided by the Croatian services, compared to last year, the authorities have decided invest nearly three million euros more among others increasing the seasonal remuneration of firefighters, as well as purchasing the necessary equipment.
“In an area at risk of fires 226 cameras were deployed, including 82 in new locations. The most important change is a completely new communication system that firefighters will use. They will receive 800 new devices and, for the first time, they will have their own communication system, independent of the police. In addition, they will be assigned 78 new vehicles to extinguish forest fires“- we read.
Summer in Croatia. The services are preparing for a difficult period
As reported by the fire brigade commander Croatia Slavko Tucaković's employees started intensive preparations for the summer season. Already in the first half of 2024 over 21 percent more fires were recorded than in the same period of the previous year.
– We anticipate a greater fire risk in the summer season, especially in southern Dalmatia – he said.
According to Zoran Vakul, a Croatian meteorologist in the country, “a truly hellish summer is expected, during which the risk of drought will increase.”
