Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of Digitization Krzysztof Gawkowski (Left) announced that the government had adopted the draft law on the energy voucher. On Tuesday, an away government meeting was held in Katowice.
– We talked about energy support for Polish women and men. It is a good decision of the government, because it will be support, Gawkowski told journalists after the government meeting.
Maximum electricity price
Introducing a maximum price for electricity of PLN 500/MWh in the period July-December 2024, as well as an energy voucher for less wealthy families – including: solutions are provided for in the bill on energy vouchers adopted by the government on Tuesday.
According to the last published project, the maximum electricity price in the second half of 2024 is to be PLN 500 per MWh for households and PLN 693 per MWh for local government units, public utility entities and small and medium-sized enterprises. However, those electricity consumers who concluded contracts for the sale of this electricity with a dynamic price were excluded from the possibility of settling at the maximum price.
Currently, the maximum energy price for households is PLN 412 net – excluding VAT and excise duty – per 1 MWh for consumers who do not exceed the designated limits.
Energy voucher
The new regulations also provide for the introduction of an energy voucher, which will be addressed to at-risk customers, the so-called energy poverty. You will be able to receive the voucher after fulfillment income criterion, and its amount will vary, depending on the number of people in the household. Increased support will be provided to less wealthy households whose heating sources are powered by electricity (e.g. heat pumps, storage furnaces).
The energy voucher will be a cash benefit for households whose income does not exceed PLN 2,500 per person in a single-person household or PLN 1,700 per person in a multi-person household.
In the case of a single-person household, the voucher will be PLN 300; in a household consisting of 2 to 3 people – PLN 400; in a household consisting of 4 to 5 people – PLN 500; in a household consisting of at least 6 people – PLN 600.
If your household uses heating sources powered by electricity, the energy voucher will increase by 100%.
The project provides that applications for payment of energy vouchers will have to be submitted from August 1 to September 30, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Climate and Environment, under the proposed Energy Voucher Act, from July 1, 2024, electricity bills for tariffed customers may increase by 29% and gas bills by 15%, assuming an appropriate reduction in tariff prices.
