One of the topics of discussion were the mass protests organized in Tbilisi and other Georgian cities, which have been ongoing for several weeks. Thousands of citizens and representatives of opposition groups oppose the decision implementation of the “Foreign Agents” Act.
Georgia. Protests in Tbilisi. A repeat of Maidan?
Mamuka Mamulashvili was asked about the possible involvement of legion soldiers in the protests. The Georgian military officer said that “the entire Georgian Legion supports Georgian society,” but he is currently unable to leave.
– The main battle with the real power is taking place in Ukraine. We want to be there (v Georgia – ed.), but we must continue our fight. When evil is defeated in Ukraine, it will also withdraw from Georgia, he said.
At the same time, according to the former parliamentarian, the events in the capital of Georgia are a repetition of the history of the so-called Ukrainian Maidan, which began with mass demonstrations in Kiev.
– The same thing is happening in Georgia as in Ukraine 10 years agowhen it all started, when the Russian occupation began – he added, emphasizing that it was then that he came up with the idea of creating a volunteer battalion, the Georgian Legion, which then went to the Ukrainian front.
– Georgians will not give up until they end Russia's defeat in Ukraine. The Georgian Legion is a group that will do everything in its power to divide Russia into pieces – he concluded.
Nona Mamulashvili: Freedom is not free
The founder also participated in the discussion organized by the Hudson Institute civil organization “Gamziri” Nona Mamulashviliprivately the sister of the commander of the Georgian Legion.
Talking about the details of the law that sparked mass protests, the oppositionist admitted that her project is practically a copy of the regulations introduced a few years ago in the Russian Federation. In her opinion, acceptance of these regulations will mean even greater rapprochement of the country with Russia and a simultaneous signal sent to the Kremlin about the submission of the authorities and society.
– We have been fighting Russian imperialism for 30 years and we will continue to fight. We have no time to get tired, because freedom must be defended. Freedom is not free and is not guaranteed – she explained.
Nona Mamulashvili added that it is planned Vladimir Putin there is full subordination of Georgia, as it was in the times of the Soviet Union.
