Gniezno. A newborn baby left in the window of life

Alarm in the window of life in the House of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul at ul. Lech in Gniezno was launched on Monday at 5.12.

“The sisters came down and found the boy there. Of course, they immediately notified the police and the ambulance service. The child was examined and taken to the hospital. All other procedures provided for by law have also been launched – informed Fr. Krzysztof Stawski, director of Caritas of the Archdiocese of Gniezno.

After initial examination on site, at the window of life, the child was found to be in good condition. – This is a baby who is a few or a dozen days old. The child was well-groomed, a black-haired boy, described the priest.

In the window of life there was a letter to the mother, in which she was asked, among other things, to suggest a name for the child. “The letter was taken, but nothing was left by the woman,” the priest said.

“In accordance with the procedures, after consulting the prosecutor’s office, it was decided that there would be no proceedings against the child’s mother” – informed the Poviat Police Headquarters in Gniezno.

The mother now has six weeks to change her decision to abandon the boy. If he does not, the court will start the adoption procedure.

– The child will be in the hospital, and when he is in good condition, he will go to the emergency care and there he will wait for an adoptive family – described Fr. Stawski.

The priest reminded that this is the second case of leaving a child in the Gniezno window of life, which has been operating since 2012. In August 2013, a baby, also a boy, was left there.
