The wife of leading British presenter Huw Edwards has announced that he is the one facing media allegations about paying a teenage person for pictures of a sexual nature. In a statement issued, she also said that Edwards had been hospitalized in recent days. British police point out that there are no formal charges against the journalist at this time.

On Wednesday, the wife of BBC presenter Huwa Edwards issued a statement “out of concern for her husband’s mental health and the protection of their children”. The statement came after speculations had been circulating in the British media for several days about an unnamed BBC presenter accused of paying a teenager a total of £35,000 (approx. PLN 180,000) for pictures of a sexual nature.

“Huw suffers from serious mental health problems. It is known that he has been treated for severe depression in recent years,” said the journalist’s wife, Vicky Flind, in a statement quoted by the BBC. “The events of the last few days have significantly worsened the situation, he suffered another serious episode (depression – ed.) and is now under the care of a hospital where he will remain in the near future” – she added.

Information that an unnamed BBC presenter was allegedly paying a teenage girl for pictures of a sexual nature was first reported by The Sun newspaper last Friday. However, these reports are only speculations so far. British police emphasize that there are no formal charges against the presenter, and that there are no grounds for an investigation against him. A London Police statement said investigators “have completed their assessment of the situation and have determined that there is no information to suggest that a crime has been committed”. “Several parties were spoken to before the decision was made, including the BBC, the alleged complainant and his family,” it added.

On Sunday, the BBC reported that it was taking the matter very seriously and the presenter who was the subject of media allegations had been suspended. At that time, it was not yet publicly known that it was Edwards.
