Kenya’s navy chief was amongst 9 individuals killed after a helicopter crashed shortly after taking off.
Basic Francis Ogolla, 61, was on a go to to troops stationed within the nation’s troubled western area when the plane caught hearth and crashed shortly after taking off.
Saying the deaths, Kenya‘s President William Ruto mentioned: “In the present day our nation suffered a tragic air accident.
“I’m deeply saddened to announce the passing on of Basic Francis Ogolla, the chief of the Kenya Defence Forces.”
He continued to say: “Our motherland has misplaced one in all her most valiant generals.
“The demise of Basic Ogolla is a painful loss to me… a distinguished four-star basic has fallen in the midst of obligation, and repair to nation.”
Eleven different navy personnel have been within the plane with Mr Ogolla, two of whom survived the crash.
The reason for the crash stays unknown, however an investigation into the incident has been launched.
Mr Ogolla was appointed as chief of the defence forces in April 2023 after the retirement of Basic Robert Kibochi.
