Honda recalls 1.3 million vehicles worldwide due to rear camera problem

Japanese automaker Honda Motor has called for repairs to 1.3 million vehicles worldwide, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Friday. The reason is a potential problem with the image transmitted by the reversing camera.

The recall affects certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty coaxial cable connection for communication, the image from the rear view camera may not appear on the display.

The recall covers 1.2 million vehicles in USA88,000 w Canada and 16,000 w MexicoHonda said.

Honda dealers will repair cars

Honda previously extended the warranty to affected vehicles in 2021. The automaker said in a notification to the Agency that it had received 273,870 warranty claims related to the issue between May 2017 and June this year, and there were no reports of injuries or deaths related to the issue.

Honda dealers are to install an upgraded wiring harness between the existing audio display and vehicle terminal connections, and a cover to straighten the vehicle cable connector to properly connect the audio display, Reuters reports.
