A heatwave has hit Moscow. On Wednesday afternoon, thermometers in the Russian capital showed 32 degrees Celsius – the highest value ever recorded there on July 2. Trucks appeared in the city, spraying the streets with water.
The Russian capital, Moscow, is experiencing an unprecedented heatwave, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, breaking a daily record set in 1890, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Not only in the capital
To help residents and tourists cope with the heat, Moscow authorities have sent trucks equipped with water tanks and hoses onto the streets. They spray streams of water, creating a refreshing mist. The heat wave over Moscow is expected to last a few more days – according to forecasts, Thursday and Friday may bring values of up to 35 degrees Celsius.
The capital isn’t the only place feeling the heat. Two Siberian regions have been in a state of emergency since the beginning of the month due to increasingly frequent taiga fires.
