Strong winds are expected across the country on Friday and Saturday. The strongest gusts of wind are forecast on the coast, where IMGW forecasters plan to issue third, highest level alerts. Level 2 and level 1 alerts may occur in other regions. Forecasters also warn of thawing in the south of the country.
Strong winds in Poland on Friday and Saturday will be associated with the movement of cyclone Ulf over Europe. The strongest gusts of wind, exceeding 100 kilometers per hour, are expected on the coast. In other regions of the country, it will also blow dangerously strong, with gusts up to 90 km / h. The low will also be associated with rainfall and rain with snow.
Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first and second degree meteorological warnings on a three-stage ascending scale and a threat forecast for Friday and Saturday.
IMGW alerts of the second degree – thaws
First-level IMGW alerts against thaws have been issued for the following voivodeships:
– Silesianfor the counties: Cieszyn, Bielsko, Żywiec;
– Lesser Polandfor the following poviats: Sucha, Nowy Targ, Tatrzański, Limanowski, Nowy Sącz.
An increase in air temperature is forecast there, causing thaw and melting of the snow cover. The minimum temperature will be from 2 to 4 degrees Celsius, and the maximum thermometers will show 3-5 degrees C. The sum of rainfall in 24 hours will reach from 10 to 20 liters of water per square meter. The wind will blow at an average speed of 25 to 35 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 70 km/h, from the south-west and west.
The warnings will be valid from 12 noon on Friday until 12 noon. 18 on Saturday.
IMGW alerts of the first degree – thaws
First degree warnings against thaws have been issued for the province Lower Silesiafor counties: Lwówek, Karkonosze, Jelenia GoraKamienna Góra, Wałbrzych, WałbrzychKłodzko.
In these places, melting of the snow cover is expected in the mountains at a level of 500 to 1000 meters above sea level. On Friday and from Friday to Saturday, the minimum temperature will be from 3 to 7 degrees C, and the maximum temperature on thermometers will be from 2 to 4 degrees C. During the day, the sum of rainfall will reach 5-10 l / sq m. The wind will blow during the day with an average speed of 20 to 35 km/h, with gusts up to 65 km/h, and at night – from 30 to 40 km/h, with gusts up to 85 km/h, from the south-west and west.
On the following day (18/02 and 18/19/02) the positive air temperature will be maintained and rainfall of 10-20 l/sqm will occur within 24 hours.
The alerts will go into effect on Friday at 7 and will expire at the same time on Saturday.

IMGW threat forecast for Friday
On Friday, it will also start blowing strongly in Poland. The wind will reach the most dangerous speeds in the north of the country. Therefore, for the coastal districts of the province West Pomeranian (except Świnoujście and the Kamień Poviat) and Pomeranian (except GdyniaSopot and Gdańsk and the Nowy Dwór poviat), forecasters plan to issue warnings of the third, highest degree.
In the remaining area of Western Pomerania and Pomerania, as well as throughout the provinces: Kuyavian-Pomeranian, warmińsko-mazurskie, Podlaskie, Lubuskie, Greater Poland and of Lodz Level 2 alerts may apply.
For the rest of the country, i.e. for provinces: Lower Silesia, Opole, Silesian, Lesser Poland, Subcarpathian, Świętokrzyskie and Lublin Level 1 warnings are likely to be issued.

On the first day of the weekend, there will also be strong winds across Poland. It will be most dangerous in the north of the country. IMGW plans to issue second-level alerts against strong wind for the following provinces: West Pomeranian (districts: Kołobrzeg, Koszalin, Koszalin, Sławno), Pomeranian (districts: Słupsk, Słupsk, Lębork, Wejherowo, Puck), warmińsko-mazurskie (districts: Elbląg, Elbląg, Braniewo, Bartoszycki, Kętrzyn, Węgorzewo, Gołdap) and Podlaskie (districts: Suwałki, Suwałki, Sejny).
