Heavy rains caused floods and landslides on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi (Celebes). There are several deaths. More than 1,800 houses were damaged.

The most difficult flood situation is in the province of South Sulawesi. On Saturday, the country's crisis management agency said the death toll had risen to 15. The day before, at least seven people were reported dead.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing. According to the agency, more than 1,800 homes were damaged. Many residents were evacuated.

In Indonesia, landslides are common during the rainy season, but in some places this phenomenon has been exacerbated by deforestation.

At the beginning of March, at least 30 people died as a result of flash floods and landslides in Sumatra – recalled the AFP agency.
