A 60-year-old employee of a road cleaning company was taken to hospital because he turned the key in the ignition of a dump truck in a parking lot in Janówek (Lublin Voivodeship) without entering the cab. The vehicle moved forward and hit a sweeper standing in front of it. The man was crushed. Doctors describe his condition as serious.

This unfortunate accident occurred on Wednesday (May 1) after 12 p.m. in the town of Janówek, near the Bystrzejowice Traveler Service Center.

He just wanted to turn the key a little

– He opened the door to the dump truck's cabin and – without going inside – put his hand in to turn the key in the ignition. He wanted to turn it only slightly to supply electricity to the battery and start the dump truck (probably to pour out the soil lying on the trailer – editor's note) – says staff aspirant Elwira Domaradzka from the District Police Headquarters in Świdnik.

However, the vehicle moved forward and hit a road sweeper in front of it.

– The man found himself between the door of the dump truck and the rear of the sweeper. He was crushed, says the policewoman.

His colleagues freed him

He adds that his co-workers rushed to help the man.

– They freed him and performed resuscitation. He was then transported to hospital. Doctors describe his condition as serious, notes Asp. pcs. Domaradzka.

The officers will explain the details of the incident.
