I am glad that Jarosław Kaczyński took advantage of my proposal of an honorable way out of the situation, namely the payment of PLN 50,000 to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said Radosław Sikorski, PO MEP in an interview with TVN24. In his opinion, “the coincidence of time helped the president to make a decision.”

In January, on social media, the former foreign minister made a complaint to the president PIS public offer: if by the end of January he makes a payment of PLN 50,000 to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Radoslaw Sikorski will refrain from pursuing claims.

Last year, the court awarded the MEP PO with a non-final decision over PLN 708,000 from Jarosław Kaczyński to cover the costs of publishing an apology in Onet. The case concerns the words of the PiS president from 2016, when he suggested that Sikorski had committed “diplomatic betrayal”.

Statement by the President of PiS

On Tuesday, the PiS president announced in a statement that donated money to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. “Today Ukraine fights for its independence and freedom, but also for our safety. We support it and we will support it. Since the payment to the support fund for the Ukrainian Armed Forces closes my controversial dispute with Radosław Sikorski, I do so with satisfaction,” reads Kaczyński’s statement sent to PAP by his plenipotentiary Adrian Salus.

Sikorski: I am glad that Kaczyński took advantage of my proposal of an honorable way out of the situation

Sikorski commented on the case on Wednesday in an interview with TVN24. – I am glad that Kaczyński took advantage of my proposal of an honorable way out of this situation, namely the payment of PLN 50,000 to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, because together we could do something good for an ally who is fighting for the whole of Europe – he said. “May all matters end so honorably and patriotically,” he added.

In his opinion, “the coincidence of time helped the president to make a decision.” – Namely, my expiring ultimatum and the fact that there was a scandal around the transitional provisions to amend the Code of Civil Procedure – said Sikorski. “It really looked like privatization of the state,” he said.

Last week, the House passed changes in the Code of Civil Procedurewhich concern, among others, cases of infringement of personal rights. According to the opposition, the regulations were tailored to Kaczyński.

PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek said on Monday that “combining the private matter of the president Jarosław Kaczyński with the change of the provisions in the Code of Civil Procedure is unjustified”, but “in order to end any speculation in the Senate, our senators will submit an amendment that will specify that these provisions will be applied to proceedings that will only start in the future”.
