On New Year’s Eve, firefighters intervened more than 1,100 times. There were 800 fires – said the spokesman for the State Fire Service, brigadier Karol Kierzkowski, on TVN24. He reported that more than 5,000 professional firefighters were on duty.
Brigadier Karol Kierzkowski said on Sunday morning on TVN24 that New Year’s Eve was busy for firefighters. – From midnight to 6 am there were over 1,100 interventions. Most of them concerned fires – there were 800 of them, of which about 700 can be classified as such derivatives when it comes to New Year’s Eve, i.e. fireworks and fires caused by them, i.e. fires in garbage cans, some attics, balconies – he said.
He added that three hours before midnight, firefighters “recorded fires in residential facilities with a fatality.” – After midnight too. It was the Małopolskie, Lubuskie and Pomorskie voivodeships, so here firefighters had to intervene in such events – said the spokesman of the State Fire Service.
PSP spokesman: a difficult year for firefighters
He reported that more than 5,000 professional firefighters were on duty. As he said, it was a difficult year for firefighters. – We have exceeded the barrier of 600,000 interventions per year. This is the greatest result in the history of the State Fire Service in 30 years. This was mainly influenced by the forces of nature, forest fires, and also helping refugees from Ukraine Kierzkowski said.
