Russians sue Norwegians: On Friday Norwegian company Equinor confirmed that she was sued by Russian operator Nord Stream 2. The reason is the refusal to provide assistance in investigating the causes of the gas pipeline failure, reports the Energi Watch portal, citing the Norwegian “Teknisk Ukebald”.
Western sanctions in the background: According to the Russians, providing assistance in explaining the causes of the Nord Stream 2 failure was the Norwegians' obligation due to their industry obligations. Meanwhile, as Reuters wrote two years ago, Equinor claims that assistance in this respect could not be granted due to sanctions imposed on Russia after it attacked Ukraine.
The trial will start in June: Reuters reminds that Norway is not a member of the European Unionbut it is part of the single market and has applied most of the EU sanctions against Russia. The trial brought by Russia is scheduled to start in June before the court in Stavanger. So far, both sides have not announced the amount of the lawsuit.
Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2: Let us remind you that at the end of September 2022 it happened damage to both lines of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, through which blue fuel from Russia was to flow to Europe. Swedish and Danish measuring stations recorded underwater explosions. Russia accuses the West and Ukrainians of sabotage, who deny any involvement in it. Western observers, however, point to Russians as the saboteurs.
