Old refrigerators abandoned in the Wigry National Park

The authorities of the Wigry National Park appeal to the residents for vigilance. Reason: bulky waste appearing in the forest. Only recently the park employees have found thirteen refrigerators on its area. Before someone tossed them, he dismantled the aggregates.

A shocking photo appeared in the social media of the Wigry National Park. It can be seen on the refrigerators abandoned in the forest.

“Recently, we are making more and more uninteresting finds in our forests – thrown refrigerators. We have been information that the group (for now) unidentified people visit the local residents and offers the reception of old refrigerators. Unfortunately, after removing the aggregates, the fridge is thrown into the forest” – he was reported in the communiqué.

Recently, 13 abandoned refrigerators have been found in the park. – This is a fight with windmills. The park area is 15,000 hectares of space. There are many access roads here. Of course, we have photo pads, but it is impossible to put them everywhere. That is why we sensitize residents in social media to pay attention to suspicious situations. But above all, so that they do not give away used equipment to unauthorized persons. It is easy to get rid of the fridge, but then you can meet it while walking around the park – said Stefan Mackiewicz, head of the administrative and economic department at the Wigry National Park.

The refrigerators found so far have been utilized. But it is also not easy, because a fridge without an aggregate is no longer an electrode, so it is much harder to find a place that will take it. – We had to pay PLN 2.50 for each kilo of this rubbish – added Mackiewicz.

The police have not yet been officially informed about the case.

The Wigry National Park is located near Suwałki. Within its borders it contains 42 lakes, including the largest Wigry lake, from which its name comes. Over 15,000 hectares of space make it one of the largest national parks in Poland.
