Opole. A 53-year-old attacked a senior citizen with a knife in front of a bank. He has been arrested

The court in Opole temporarily arrested 53-year-old Edward K., suspected of a knife attack on an 82-year-old bank customer. He faces life imprisonment.

The incident took place on Friday (December 15) in front of one of the banks at Krakowska Street in Opole. An elderly man who left the facility with a purse containing PLN 20,000 was approached by a man who hit the victim three times with a knife and then tried to snatch the purse with money. When the attacked man defended his property, the attacker fled. The injured man was transferred to doctors’ care.

The policemen called to the scene quickly arrested the suspect. He is a 53-year-old resident of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. As Stanisław Bar, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Opole, told PAP, the man pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor charged the detainee with attempted murder based on robbery.

Due to the fact that the suspect has previously been convicted of a similar crime, he faces a penalty for acting in conditions of recidivism – from 15 to 30 years in prison, up to and including life imprisonment.
