The list of Oscar nominations has been announced. The best film category included the drama “Strefa biznes” by Jonathan Glazer, one of whose producers is Ewa Puszczyńska. Thus, Puszczyńska became the first Polish woman in history to be nominated for an Oscar in this category.
Oscars 2024 is getting closer. On Tuesday, we learned the list of this year’s nominees. In the best film category – where the nominations, and later the Oscar itself, go to the producers of a given title – among the nominees was the drama “Business Zone” by Jonathan Glazer. One of the film’s producers is Ewa Puszczyńska, who was nominated together with James Wilson.
Puszczyńska is one of the most famous and respected Polish film producers in the world. In 2020, she was included in the “Variety 500” list – a list of the 500 most influential people in the media industry in the world.

She has been associated with Opus Film since 1995. She made her debut as an executive producer in 2005 with Franco de Peña’s “Your Name Is Justine.” She gained worldwide renown primarily thanks to her cooperation with Paweł Pawlikowski. Puszczyńska was one of the producers of “Ida” (2013) and “Cold War” (2018). But these are not her only productions or co-productions that have been awarded around the world or nominated for the most important awards – including Oscars. It is worth mentioning, among others, “Quo Vadis, Aida?” directed by Jasmila Zbanic or “The Silent Twins” by Agnieszka Smoczyńska.

“Stream of Interest” by Jonathan Glazer is one of the most famous titles of last year
The American-British-Polish production has already been appreciated, among others, at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, during which it received the Main Competition Jury Prize and the FIPRESCI International Federation of Film Critics Award.
“Business Zone” is an adaptation of the novel of the same title by Martin Amis. This is Glazer’s first full-length feature film in 10 years, i.e. since the famous “Under the Skin” with Scarlett Johansson in the main role. “Business Zone” is a shocking story about a home idyll in the shadow of the crematoria, i.e. the family life of the commandant of the German Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, Rudolf Höss and his wife Hedwig. The main roles were played by Sandra Hüller and Christian Friedel.
