The decision to introduce martial law on the territory of South Korea was announced in the president's televised speech at 11 p.m. local time (15 in Poland – ed.). As Jon Suk explained, Jeol was forced to do so due to the difficult political situation in the country caused by the paralysis of government activities.
– To protect liberal South Korea from threats from North Korean communist forces and eliminate anti-state elements“I hereby declare extraordinary martial law,” he said.
– Opposition party paralyzed governments for the sole purpose of impeachmentspecial investigations and protection of its leader from justice, he added.
It also came into force with the declaration of martial law a decree issued by General Park An Su in charge of the army. The document announced, among other things, restrictions on civil freedom, preventive control of the media and a ban on political activity.
– All political activities, including those related to the National Assemblyregional assemblies, political parties, creation of political organizations, rallies and protests, is prohibited – said the military man.
