One of the world’s most dangerous criminals, Sergio Roberto de Carvalho, known as the “Brazilian Pablo Escobar”, was detained in Hungary and transferred to Belgium. De Carvalho is a former police officer, hiding in Europe, using ten false identities.

A video of Sergio Roberto de Carvalho being transported from Budapest prison to the airport, where he boarded a plane belonging to the Belgian army, was posted on the website of the Hungarian police.

De Carvalho, who was formerly a major in the Brazilian police, was involved in drug smuggling “on a large scale” with Brazil to Europe. The Brazilian judiciary has been looking for him since 2020, and Interpol has issued a so-called red notice for him for drug trafficking, money laundering, forging documents and murder.

According to information from the Belgian police, de Carvalho was arrested a year ago in Budapest. Several countries, including Brazil, Belgium and the US, sought his extradition, but he was finally transferred to Belgium on Thursday, in the greatest secrecy.

It is not clear why Hungary transferred the offender to Belgium, not to Brazil or the United States. The media speculate that it may be related to drug smuggling to this country and the Brazilian’s collaboration with Belgian and Dutch drug mafias.
